Classroom Expectations

I look forward to working with each of you this year. As your teacher, I have an enormous responsibility. My role is to ensure you achieve to the best of your ability. I’ll challenge you to set high personal goals for yourself this year, and I’ll do everything in my power to help you achieve them. I’ll provide you with information, strategies, and learning opportunities which will enable you to attain your goals. In return, I expect you to take responsibility for your own learning, to follow the school and classroom rules, and to contribute positively to the classroom environment.

Personal Organization and Social Responsibility

Students are expected to be on time.  Late arrivals inconvenience all members of the classroom.  Upon entry to the classroom you are expected to change your footwear, use the washroom, and consult the schedule to determine which materials need to be prepared. During class, you will be expected to work to the best of your ability and to respect the rights of other students to learn.

School Supplies

All students are expected to arrive at school with the prescribed list of supplies. When materials are running low, you need to make a note in Reminders so your parents can replenish items. All work will be completed online or in a duo-tang. It is expected that the duo-tangs are kept organized and remain free of doodling/drawings etc.

Text Books

All PDFs are on your iPad (downloaded from Schoology). Hard copies of books do not go home. If you want to borrow an actual textbook, you must sign it out with me. Your name and the number will be written on the board until you return it.

Assignment Expectations

All work is typed. The majority of assignments are submitted in Schoology. Word processed assignments must be double-spaced and printed in a legible font.  For math, all headings (dates, titles, page numbers, etc.) are to be underlined using a ruler and red pen.

Homework & Notability “Planner”

Students should expect to receive homework most nights which consists of reading for at least 20 minutes a day and reviewing math facts for 5 minutes. The actual amount of homework will fluctuate according to how effectively the student uses their time during. Students are provided adequate time to complete all work in class, if they use their time and are focused on the task. The same expectations that exist for the completion of classroom work also hold true for homework. Students will be held accountable for their work and sub-par efforts will be redone.

All homework will be recorded in Notability on the iPad. Parents are requested to check the PDF on the iPad to ensure all tasks have been completed. Effective use of Notability for reminders and homework is the single most important personal planning and organizational tool students have at their disposal.

Late Assignments

All assignments will have a due date. It is expected all students will promptly hand in work. All work in Schoology needs to be submitted by the date and time stated.  Extensions will be granted to students who have been ill or have extenuating circumstances, which have hindered their ability to complete the assignment(s). If you submit a late assignment, you must send a message for it to be marked.

Resubmitted Assignments

Students are encouraged to review all feedback and incorporate it into future assignments. Students can resubmit any assignment after acting on feedback (you must change the font colour to show all changes) and email me to have your assignment remarked.

Away From School

Absences are an inevitable fact of school life. It is imperative for students who are away to take an active role in catching up on missed work once they have returned, or during they time they are away, if possible. During an absence, an "I'm Away Folder" will be on the student's desk and any handouts, quizzes, tests, etc. will be placed inside it.Students are expected to organize these materials once they return to class. The majority of work is available in Schoology to do when away. Students will be sent a message for each day with work they can do while absent, if they are well enough to do so.

Physical Education

The emphasis in P.E. is on participation and having fun. Students must change into gym strip for all P.E. classes, unless otherwise directed. Gym strip entails a pair of clean shoes, a top, and shorts or sweats. Students are asked to bring a note or have their parent email me if they are to be excused from participating.

Entering and Leaving the School

It is a school expectation that all students enter and leave the school via their classroom's exterior door. Students who are expected to pick up younger members of the family should do so outside the exterior door of their sibling's classroom.

I look forward to a rewarding and exciting year with you! Please take time to go over these expectations with your parents.
